Can you grow palms in Sweden or Norway?

You can get a palm tree in your own garden in Southern Scandinavia!

Palms in the gardens of Denmark? With the right species it can be done. One that endures down to ÷17 ° C is the palm tree Trachycarpus Fortunei. If you place it in a protected place in the garden below it can easily grow so high that on can stand underneath it. The worst for the palm is strong frost AND cold winds. Normal frost down to ÷17 ° C it endures without any problems. It covers its own stem with a sort of wool. In its home country it grows above 2000 meters in the mountains in Himalaya. and towards the east in China and Korea. The palm trees are often covered with snow in the wintertime and the climate is rather tough with frost on and off. In Denmark we had a period with 3 weeks of frost around  ÷15 ° C and all our Palm trees endured that without any problems. There are other sturdy palm trees like Trachycarpus Takil and Trachycarpus Humilus  and sturdy yucca palms too, but the above is the biggest and often considered the most beautiful. With the right treatment it reaches the status of the palm trees from the south like Mediterranean area. Trachycarpus Fortunei is also called Trachycarpus Excelsa.

This palm has now been growing in Denmark for app. 20 years and is fully competitive WITH ANY in Europe. PALMS CAN GROW IN DENMARK, SWEDEN AND NORWAY! It can be seen in the garden which is placed between  Sølvgade and the old polytechnic School..
