Growing Palm Trees

Winter ÷17 - +10° C

Summer +10- 30° C

Are planted so the roots are not standing in water. Can be grown in nearly all kind of soils but prefers slightly acid soil. If fat clay mix it with gravel or lighter soil. If very sandy, clay can be mixed especially in top layers.

In the growing season you add fertilizer every third week, preferably the one used for green houses or organic types. Do not use strong NPK fertilizer. Like other plants thy do best with water + fertilizer + good temperatures.

Do not fertilize after august as it needs to rest during the wintertime due to coldness and lack of  day light and new leaves are more delicate than older ones.

All palm trees have only one top leave. The stem is created by cutting off outworn old leaves and brown leaves who do not longer help with the photosynthesis.

If  the temperatures sink below 15 degrees of frost, you can protect the palm tree by wrapping the in fibre, do not use plastic as the leaves will rotten.

Do not ever take them into a warm living room They can be grown inside, but then they are kept inside.

Planting is best in spring, but can be one until the end of august. Protect more the first couple of years, especially the smaller ones. Planting in spring guarantees  they get foothold before winter.
