The Trachycarpus palm trees grow above 2.000 meters in Himalayas mountains and towards east to China, Korea and Japan. The palmtrees are often covered with snow in the wintertime and tthe climate is rather tough with long periods with snow and frost.. The most sturdy palm tree is though Rhapidophyllum hystrix from the Southeastern USA, it endures temperatures down to –25 grades of Celsius. But it grows very slow. Trachycarpus fortunei can be grown in
Denmark and Southern parts of Sweden an Norway. But take the microclimate into
consideration as there can be considerable difference between coast and in land
climates. |
